About

Heart Container is a submission-based a video game zine produced by Albertine Watson, a communications student and life-long gamer. Submissions received dictate the style and content of each issue.

The zine aims to be an enthusiastic and artistic look at the world of video games, offering commentary, fan creations, and more.

What’s a zine?

In a way, zines are do-it-yourself magazines, but not necessarily how you think of magazines such as Seventeen, Time, or People. They are independently published little booklets, often created by a single person. These booklets are often put together by gluing together words and pictures onto pages that are then photocopied, folded and stapled. Or they can be created on the computer and printed off. These are what you would call paper zines, for there are also e-zines that exist only on the internet and in paper form.

Why make it?

Heart Container exists to provide gamers an outlet with which to artistically express their thoughts and feelings about games in a fun, local environment.

The zine is not created for profit. All proceeds received will be donated directly to Child’s Play, a fantastic charity working to provide sick children in North America with toys, books, and games to play with and enjoy while they’re in the hospital.

How often are issues published?

Heart Container is essentially a one woman show, save for contributed content, so issues will be published as often as can be kept up with. We are hoping to publish Heart Container four times a year.

Can I submit to Heart Container?

Of course! Just head over to the submission page and read the guidelines before you submit.

About the editor

Albertine Watson is a communications student obsessed with all things pertaining to the world of video games.

Her obsession began at the age of six, when her parents made the mistake of buying her older sister an original PlayStation. Her sister never cared for the large, grey machine, but Albertine certainly took a shining to it, and never looked back.

Albertine studies Creative Communications at Red River College in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. In her spare time, she likes to bake, blog, and most of all: game.

Heart Container is a video game art & culture zine raising funds for charity.
